The Optima offers three different engines that are specific to the trim levels. The LX and S are powered by a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder engine that delivers 185 horsepower and 178 lb.-ft. of torque; this engine is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The EX and EX Premium move to a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder that puts out 178 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is combined with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The SX gets the most robust engine, a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline that delivers 245 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque; this engine is paired to the same 6-speed automatic transmission as the LX and S. Regarding fuel economy, the EX and EX Premium get an EPA-estimated 27 mpg city and 37 mpg highway, for a combined total of 31 mpg. All other trim levels produce similar, but slightly lower fuel efficiency.
All Optima models come standard with an array of advanced safety features. Standard safety features include a blind-spot collision warning system, driver attention warning, forward collision warning, forward collision-avoidance assistance with pedestrian detection, lane change assist, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, parking distance warning-reverse, and rear cross-traffic collision warning.
