2021 Kia Sorento for Sale in West Springfield, MA
Kia has redesigned the three-row seven-passenger Sorento with a whole new attitude for the 2021 model year. The most obvious difference is a more chiseled and rugged exterior (clearly influenced by the slightly larger Telluride), updating the more crossover-typical rounded body style. Two new hybrid powertrains will be offered as well – a traditional gas-electric and a plug-in version (although the plug-in will have later availability) – but we’ll just discuss the conventional gas-only version on this page. On the outside, the redesigned 2021 Sorento gets a larger grille with integrated LED headlights, along with “tiger eye” LED daytime running light. The wheelbase has been increased, thanks to a brand-new platform, meaning there’s more cabin space and, consequently, greater comfort.
Trims and Powertrain
The ’21 Kia Sorento is a six- or-seven-passenger midsized crossover sold in five trim levels: LX, S, EX, SX, and SX-Prestige. The LX and S both get a 191 hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The EX, SX, and SX-Prestige receive a brawnier 281 hp (311 lb.-ft. of torque) turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a wet-clutch eight-speed automatic transmission (exclusive to this vehicle class). Front-wheel drive is standard for all five trims, but torque-vectoring all-wheel drive is available.
EPA estimates indicate that the FWD LX and S both return 24 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. With AWD this drops slightly to 23 city/25 highway. The FWD EX, SX, and SX-Prestige return 22 city/29 highway, and with AWD they achieve 21 city/28 highway.
The EX delivers a wireless smartphone charger, heated front seats, and second-row captain’s chairs (reducing passenger capacity to six). The SX loads up with a power-operated tailgate, fog lights, 20-inch wheels, and a power-adjustable front passenger’s seat. At the top of the trim hierarchy, the SX-Prestige earns its name with special X-Line exterior design elements (including more aggressive front and rear looks and 20-inch gray wheels), full LED headlights, LED fog lights, LED taillights, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, genuine leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.
Driver-Assistive Safety and Technology
Kia Drive Wise – the automaker’s suite of advanced safety technologies – comes standard on every trim of the 2021 Sorento. The base version of this package includes forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, a driver attention warning monitor (with lead vehicle depart alert), lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, high beam assist, and rear occupant alert. The S also gets blind-spot collision-avoidance assist with parallel exit assist, rear cross-traffic collision warning, reverse parking distance warning, and safe exit assist. The EX adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go while the SX highway also receives drive assist. The loaded SX-Prestige is the only trim that gets a standard surround-view camera system.
The base infotainment system in the LX has an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker audio system, HD radio, a USB data port, five USB charging ports, and two 12-volt power outlets. The S and EX add satellite radio, two more USB ports, and UVO connected car services. The SX upgrades its system with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, and voice recognition, and the SX-Prestige gets a premium 12-speaker Bose audio system.
