2022 Kia Niro Hybrid for Sale in West Springfield, MA
A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is all about the best of both worlds. First, electric-only power is ideal for efficient and eco-friendly local trips, while a conventional gas engine offers flexibility and reassurance for longer drives without the worry of planning stops to recharge. The 2022 Kia Niro PHEV combines the flexibility of two forms of power with the excellent traits and equipment of the other Niro models (gas-only and all-electric).
It begins with a surprisingly spacious subcompact crossover body style that can handle five passengers and their stuff. Next is a commanding driver position for confidence and ideal outward visibility. And, of course, there’s Kia’s reputation for value that’s enhanced by the Niro PHEV’s stellar economy ratings. Capping off the Niro PHEV’s advantages is Kia’s outstanding warranty, which provides 5 years/60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage, 10 years/100,000 miles of powertrain protection (including the hybrid system), and a 5-year/60,000-mile roadside assistance plan.
Trims and Powertrain
The 2022 Niro PHEV comes in three trims: LXS, EX, and EX Premium. The sole powerplant is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder gas engine and electric motor combination providing a total system output of 139 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) manages the front-wheel drivetrain.
Recharging the 8.9 kWh battery takes about 9 hours via standard household current and 2.5 hours with a 240-volt outlet. In electric-only mode, the Niro PHEV provides up to 26 miles of range, and about 560 total miles of electric and gas-burning range combined. The EPA-estimated MPGe rating is 105; in hybrid mode, the Niro PHEV is rated for up to 48 mpg in the city and 44 mpg on the highway.
The standard equipment for the LXS includes 16-inch aerodynamic wheels, power side mirrors, roof rails, solar glass, projector-beam headlights, high-beam assist, LED daytime running lights, Smart Key with remote start, push-button start, a 4.2-inch driver information display, a tilt and telescopic steering column, cruise control, four-way manually adjustable front seats, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, and advanced driver aids (see additional information below).
The EX adds heated power-folding side mirrors with built-in signal indicators, front fog lights, LED rear combination lights, leather-trimmed seats, a ten-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar control, heated front seats, a 7.0-inch driver information display, rear console vents, a cargo cover, adjustable mood lighting, and additional driver aids. The EX Premium gets upgraded with LED headlights, a power sunroof, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, SynTex leatherette seating, and an auto-dimming review mirror.
Advanced Safety Systems
All Niro PHEV trims have forward collision avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision warning, rear cross-traffic collision warning, lane keep assist, rear occupant alert, and driver attention warning. The EX adds forward collision avoidance assist with cyclist detection, lane follow assist, and Smart Cruise Control. The EX Premium receives the safety upgrades from the EX as well as rear parking sensors, highway driving assist, and navigation-based cruise control.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The base six-speaker infotainment system for the LXS has an 8-inch color touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming capability, one USB audio input, and one USB power outlet. The EX adds wireless device charging. The EX Premium gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, and an eight-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, but it reverts to plug-in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto because the larger touchscreen is incompatible with the wireless system.
