2022 Kia Sportage for Sale in West Springfield, MA
With its upscale design, optional turbocharged performance, and satisfying ride quality, the Kia Sportage is one of the most compelling compact crossovers on the market. For model year 2022, the S trim level has been replaced by the Nightfall Edition, which was an optional package last year and is now a standalone trim. What’s more, the LX Value Edition Package now includes dark 18-inch wheels, heated front seats, and Smart Key with push-button start. The EX trim gains a newly standard panoramic sunroof, and the EX Technology Package and SX Turbo trim both receive complimentary map updates and new software for their navigation systems.
Trims, Powertrain, and Fuel Efficiency
The Sportage’s trim lineup has changed slightly since last year: the S is out and the Nightfall Edition is in, making the new lineup LX, Nightfall Edition, EX, and SX Turbo. The first three trims have a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine (181 hp and 175 lb.-ft. of torque), while the SX Turbo earns its name with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder (240 hp and 260 lb.-ft. of torque). Both get the same six-speed automatic transmission; front-wheel drive is the default, but all-wheel drive is available. You can even tow a little bit with the Sportage, as its maximum towing capacity is 2,000 pounds.
The official EPA ratings state that the Sportage with the 2.4-liter engine and FWD gets an estimated 23 mpg in city driving and 30 mpg on the highway. With the AWD, the base-engine Sportage returns 22 city/26 highway. Meanwhile, the turbocharged FWD Sportage achieves 20 city/28 highway, while the turbocharged AWD version will get you city/24 highway.
The LX is set up nicely with automatic headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, a rearview camera, selectable drive modes (Normal, Eco, and Sport), three 12-volt power outlets (two up front and one in the rear), a USB audio/charging port, an auxiliary audio input jack, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, rear privacy glass, rear air-conditioning vents, and an underfloor storage compartment for valuables. Fog lights come as a package deal with AWD. Some additional sought-after features are available through the LX Value Edition Package: heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, Smart Welcome (illuminates the door pocket lights and unfolds the side mirrors as you approach with the key fob), a windshield wiper de-icer, Smart Key with push-button ignition, special fabric seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and heated front seats.
The Nightfall Edition has most of those available items, along with unique badges, black exterior accents, front and rear skid plates, a panoramic sunroof, LED interior lighting, simulated- leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel and shift knob, alloy sport pedals, and paddle shifters. The Nightfall Edition’s Premium Package adds Smart Welcome, Smart Key with push-button ignition, metal door scuff plates, a wireless smartphone charger, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a universal garage door opener.
The EX drops the Nightfall Edition’s sportier elements (the exclusive badging, flat-bottom steering wheel, paddle shifters, and alloy pedals), but it gains a power liftgate. The EX Technology Package will issue the wireless smartphone charger, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and universal garage door opener, in addition to front and rear parking sensors, leather seats, a power front passenger’s seat, ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. The higher-output SX Turbo gets all those optional amenities and returns the flat-bottom steering wheel, paddle shifters, and alloy pedals. It also has LED headlights and fog lights and dual chrome exhaust outlets.
Driver-Assistive Safety and Technology
Each ’22 Sportage trim has some form of the Kia Drive Wise suite of safety aids. The base version that comes on the LX contains forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and driver attention warning. The LX Value Edition Package adds blind-spot collision warning and rear cross-traffic collision warning, both of which are standard in the Nightfall Edition and above trims. The Nightfall Edition Premium Package and EX Technology Package – as well as the SX Turbo – supply adaptive cruise control.
The 2022 Sportage is filled to the brim with in-demand technology features. The base infotainment system has an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Siri Eyes Free, and a six-speaker sound system. The Nightfall Edition Premium Package will add voice recognition and SiriusXM satellite radio to its namesake trim. The EX is eligible for those same add-ons with the available EX Technology Package, which also yields navigation and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. The SX Turbo is loaded with all of the above.
