The 2023 Kia K5 is one of the few models keeping the sedan segment alive with its head-turning style, heightened performance, and overall lively demeanor. Unlike most cars in its segment, the ’23 K5 can be ordered with all-wheel drive – an attribute that New Englanders will appreciate. It also packs in a ton of modern amenities, as well as a full suite of advanced driving aids to alleviate some of the common stressors of everyday driving. For 2023, the GT-Line is now available with the Panoramic Roof Package, which contains a large glass roof panel, LED interior lighting, and gloss-black exterior trim. The AWD GT-Line now comes with a heated steering wheel, and all trims but the base LXS welcome acoustic front glass for a quieter ride.

Trims and Performance

Kia offers the ’23 K5 in LXS, GT-Line, EX, and GT trim levels. The first four get a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that whisks out 180 hp and 195 lb.-ft. of torque; it’s coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The GT gets a powertrain upgrade to a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder (290 hp and 311 lb.-ft. of torque) with a dual-clutch eight-speed automatic. Most trims come with front-wheel drive, but the GT-Line is eligible for AWD. According to the official EPA ratings, the LXS, FWD GT-Line, and EX return an estimated 27 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. With AWD, the GT-Line pulls off 25 city/33 highway. The GT is just a tad less fuel efficient in exchange for its power burst, achieving 24 city/32 highway.

Trim-Specific Equipment

The ’23 K5 has a ton of compelling amenities. The base LXS gets illuminated door handles, heated side mirrors, 16-inch wheels, a power-operated trunk, Smart Key (proximity entry) with push-button ignition, a 4.2-inch instrument display, two front USB ports (one for charging and the other for data), two rear USB charging ports, a front 12-volt power outlet, and a 60/40-split folding rear seat with a folding center armrest. The GT-Line embraces special GT styling elements, side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, LED fog lights and taillights, 18-inch wheels with Pirelli P-Zero all-season tires, a gloss-black rear spoiler, a wireless phone charger, seats clad in a combination of cloth and synthetic leather, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a leather-wrapped flat-bottomed steering wheel. When it’s equipped with AWD, the GT-Line also gets heating for the front seats and steering wheel.

The heated seats carry over to the EX, and while this trim goes without the GT-Line’s styling elements, flat-bottomed steering wheel, LED fog lights and taillights, and side mirror turn-signal indicators (the turn-signal indicators, LED taillights, and heated steering wheel remain optional), it gains a panoramic sunroof, a front center console USB charging port, rear AC vents, LED interior lighting (optional for the GT-Line), full synthetic-leather seating, and ventilated front seats. The GT doesn’t have the ventilated front seats, but they can be added back as an option. This trim is also supplied with the same aesthetic characteristics as the GT-Line, along with a sport-tuned suspension, special GT brake calipers, dual exhaust, 19-inch wheels, GT sport-bolstered front seats, and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Some noteworthy options for the ’23 K5 include power-folding side mirrors, LED headlights, a power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory, and a leather-wrapped shift knob.

Advanced Safety Systems

Kia packs a full suite of active safety technologies into every K5. The LXS gets forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, driver attention warning with leading vehicle departure alert, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, rear occupant alert, and safe exit assist. The remaining trims qualify for the available enhanced forward collision system with cyclist and junction turning detection, adaptive cruise control, and highway driving assist. The EX and GT can be ordered with front parking sensors (the GT is eligible for rear parking sensors, too), reverse parking collision-avoidance assist, a surround-view camera system, navigation-based adaptive cruise control with curve control, and safe exit assist with power rear child-safety door locks.

For infotainment, the LXS has an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, voice recognition, and a sound system with six speakers. The GT-Line and remaining trims are enhanced with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, integrated navigation, and Kia Connect remote services. A premium 12-speaker Bose audio system is available for the two highest trims.
