2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid for Sale in West Springfield, MA

2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid Exterior Blue

There are few crossovers as distinctive as the debuting 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid, which joins the Kia lineup alongside the gas-only and plug-in hybrid Sportages as part of a significant redesign. It looks drastically different, too, with the exterior reflecting what Kia calls an “Opposites United” design; this bold approach combines multiple shapes and angles into a modern and cohesive look. But most interested car shoppers will be drawn to its class-leading stats, including fuel economy of 43 miles per gallon combined and its 227-horsepower turbocharged gas-electric powertrain.

This fifth-generation Sportage (it’s Kia’s longest-running nameplate) also means increased size. Its overall length has grown by 7.1 inches, and the wheelbase is 3.4 inches longer (the height and width are greater, too). This translates into an even more spacious interior, with segment-topping rear legroom (41.3 inches) and best-in-class cargo space (39.5 cubic feet with the rear seats up).

Of course, one thing does carry over from the previous Sportage generation: Kia’s industry-leading warranty. Buyers of the 2023 Sportage Hybrid will enjoy five years or 60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage with roadside assistance and ten years or 100,000 miles of powertrain protection.

Trims and Powertrain

Kia builds the 2023 Sportage Hybrid in three trims: LX, EX, and SX Prestige. All versions get a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine teamed with dual electric motors; the combined output is a class-best 227 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. All-wheel drive (AWD) is standard on the EX and SX Prestige and optional with the LX, which gets front-wheel drive (FWD) as standard. AWD Sportage Hybrids have 8.3 inches of ground clearance versus the FWD edition’s 7.1 inches. A six-speed automatic transmission manages both drivetrains.

As mentioned, the EPA-estimated fuel economy also tops the segment, with the FWD-equipped LX getting 42 mpg around town and 44 mpg on the open road. The AWD versions are rated for 38 mpg (both city and highway). This stellar efficiency means that the Sportage Hybrid supplies 500-plus miles per tank of gas. It can also tow as much as 2,000 pounds.

Standard Features

The LX is nicely equipped, getting LED headlights with automatic on/off, dual-zone automatic climate control, power side mirrors, a digital instrument cluster, rear privacy glass, remote keyless entry, a manually adjustable driver’s seat, rear parking sensors, and 17-inch alloy wheels. In the middle of the range is the EX with proximity keyless entry with push-button start, SynTex upholstery, a ten-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated power side mirrors with integrated turn-signal indicators, and 18-inch wheels. The Premium Package is offered to upgrade the EX with a panoramic sunroof, a power tailgate, LED interior lighting, and dual illuminated sun visor vanity mirrors.

At the pinnacle of the Sportage Hybrid range is the SX Prestige, which includes everything from the EX with Premium Package plus upgraded SynTex upholstery, an eight-way power front passenger seat, ventilated front seats, LED projector-style headlights, LED fog lights, and a driver’s memory system. Some highlights of its other standard equipment are front parking sensors, a heated windshield, LED combination taillights, and solar-control glass.

Advanced Driver Assistance

Every Sportage Hybrid gets a collection of the latest assistive safety technology, including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and driver attention warning. The higher trims also get blind-spot assist, rear cross-traffic assist, and safe exit warning, but the SX Prestige alone gets a blind-spot camera monitor, rear automatic braking, remote parking assist, and adaptive cruise control with highway driving assist.

Infotainment and Connectivity

An 8-inch touchscreen is the standard infotainment equipment for the LX, which also gets a six-speaker sound system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and a front-row USB port. The EX and SX Prestige are upgraded with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, wireless device charging, a second-row USB port, and access to Kia’s connected services. An eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio system comes standard on the SX Prestige.
