Five trims make up the ’24 Niro Hybrid: LX, EX, EX Touring, SX, and SX Touring. They’re all the recipient of an efficient hybrid powertrain combining a 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor to produce 139 hp. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Fuel efficiency is the ’24 Niro Hybrid’s bread and butter, and according to the EPA, the LX, EX, and SX trims return 53 mpg in the city and 54 mpg on the highway, while the two Touring trims achieve 53 city/45 highway.
The base LX is arranged with several must-have amenities, like automatic headlights, remote keyless entry, heated side mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, a heated windshield, and a medley of USB ports (four Type-A and one Type-C). The EX gains roof rails, proximity keyless entry, remote and push-button ignition, rain-sensing wipers, heated front seats (power-adjustable for the driver), combination cloth and synthetic-leather upholstery, a synthetic leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, ambient interior lighting, a wireless phone charger, and a dual-level cargo floor.
The EX Touring spices things up with larger wheels, LED fog lights, power-folding side mirrors, a sunroof, and alloy sport pedals. Although the SX lacks the larger wheels and sport pedals seen on the EX Touring, it compensates with a hands-free tailgate, Digital Key, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, ventilated front seats with driver’s position memory, a heated steering wheel, and perforated synthetic leather upholstery. At the top of the lineup, the SX Touring adds LED headlights, as well as the larger wheels and sport pedals.
Beyond its remarkable fuel efficiency, the ’24 Niro Hybrid is recognized for its generous safety features, many of which are bundled in the standard Kia Drive Wise suite. These include forward collision-avoidance assist with vehicle and pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision warning with parallel exit assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, speed limit assist, driver attention warning with leading vehicle departure alert, rear occupant alert, and safe exit warning. The EX and higher trims come with a more advanced forward collision system that incorporates cyclist and junction turning detection, rear parking sensors, and navigation-based adaptive cruise control with highway driving assist. Meanwhile, the SX and SX Touring top the range with front parking sensors.
The default infotainment system in the ’24 Niro Hybrid uses an 8-inch touchscreen to manage Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and a six-speaker sound system. Upgrading to the EX and above trims gets you a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, Kia Connect remote vehicle services, and voice recognition powered by Amazon Alexa. While the EX and EX Touring retain the six-speaker audio system found in the base trim, the SX and SX Touring are boosted with a high-end seven-speaker Harman Kardon setup.
